***Amy Poe took the minutes from our last meeting on August 19th…and will get them to Catherine once she returns from vacation.

Catherine reported that she had a successful meeting with the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors. She is hopeful about the amount of money available for staff raises, but reminds all staff that this is contingent upon results of all the other budget hearings. Catherine pointed out that revenue really is tight everywhere, thus making the work of the Reggie Reading Foundation and other income-generating efforts a high priority for FRL.

Barbara reports that the Crenshaw budget hearing last night went well. She is still receiving applications for the Como position. Branch Managers Meeting will be held next Wednesday, September 10, 10:00 am – noon, at Hernando. She and Amy are working on a collection development sheet to track areas of need in each branch. She is also revising the User Count forms.

Marty completed a Sirsi upgrade on Sunday. She is still working to set up online payment capability for our patrons.

David reported that at the moment we have no more Info Family library cards. After our current supply of FRL cards is used, we’ll move to having Info Family cards which will be available as a keychain or wallet card. THESE WILL EVENTUALLY BE THE ONLY LIBRARY CARDS AVAILABLE TO ISSUE (as per Catherine). David will work with Jenny to select a vendor. David and Victoria are working on an Early Childhood page for our website that will include information about the BookWagon. David reported that the Readers Advisory Committee made progress in plans for readers advisory training which will be a piece of the LA career ladder process. Staff are encouraged by Catherine to give a bookmark to each person who checks out library materials.

Sandra visited Horn Lake, Tunica and Batesville to train the new head librarians in FRL financial processes. Sandra will contact FRL’s Board of Trustees to reschedule the next board meeting from September 11 to September 18. This will be after all governing bodies have decided upon amounts approved for the Library and Catherine has completed the FRL FY 2009 budget for board approval.

Angie is obtaining quotes to replace the DVD (security) cameras for Hernando. She will work with Jenny to get signs saying “Video Surveillance Cameras in Use” for all appropriate branches. Several branches still have old printers. These will be replaced during the next fiscal year.

Judy is working with Janet Majilton, Library Grant Write, on a Dollar General Store Foundation Grant. FRL is a partner in the DeSoto Arts Council’s Big Read Grant, which comes through NEA. Materials have arrived and Judy will be sending these to DeSoto and Tunica County branches later this week.

Teen Read Week is October 12-18th. Once more, we’ll celebrate by allowing teens to read away their fines. Since the purpose is to help teens clear their records so that they can check out books, Fine Read Away will be in effect the entire month of October. Materials will be sent to each branch soon.
